Dermalux LED Aftercare Following Electrolysis for Post-Treatment Recovery

We use Dermalux Phototherapy after selected skin and electrolysis treatments. Procedures such as microneedling and electrolysis intentionally trigger a controlled inflammatory response, an important part of the skin's natural healing process.

LED phototherapy does not aim to completely suppress this response. Instead, red and near-infrared wavelengths can help modulate excessive inflammation, support cellular repair, and allow the skin to progress through the healing process in a controlled manner.

After electrolysis hair removal, and electrolysis skin-blemish treatments, Dermalux may help reduce visible redness and discomfort, calm the skin, and support recovery.

Electrolysis treats individual hair follicles, and as part of this process, the skin naturally produces a mild inflammatory response. Temporary redness, warmth, slight swelling or tenderness can therefore be completely normal after treatment. To support the skin following electrolysis, we may recommend Dermalux LED Phototherapy as part of your aftercare.

  • What is a complete clearance?

A complete clearance means treating and removing all visible hairs within a particular area during a treatment session or a series of closely scheduled sessions. A complete clearance does not mean every hair has been permanently removed in one visit. Hair grows in cycles, and at any one time there will be follicles that are not producing a visible hair and therefore cannot yet be treated.

Once the first clearance has been achieved, new hairs will gradually appear as previously inactive follicles enter a new growth cycle. These hairs are treated at subsequent appointments, with the aim of achieving another complete clearance at each session.

As treatment progresses, successful electrolysis permanently prevents treated follicles from producing further hair. You should therefore notice fewer hairs returning, reduced density and progressively shorter clearance sessions.

Regular clearances can be particularly useful when treating larger or denser areas, as they allow us to monitor your progress and work systematically toward permanent hair removal.

The time required to achieve clearance will vary depending on the size of the area, the density of hair growth, previous hair-removal methods, your individual hair-growth cycles, and how your skin tolerates treatment. Your electrologist will discuss a realistic treatment plan with you during your consultation.

  • Dermalux uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support the skin’s natural repair processes. It does not aim to suppress the normal inflammatory response required for healing. Instead, LED phototherapy can help modulate excessive inflammation, calm the skin and support a more comfortable recovery.

Following electrolysis, we use Dermalux Compact Lite - Red 633 nm + NIR 830 nm, delivered simultaneously for 10–20 minutes, with duration selected according to treatment intensity, area treated and observed post-treatment erythema/oedema.

    Benefits include:

    • reduced visible redness and post-treatment inflammation

    • soothe warmth, sensitivity and discomfort

    • support cellular repair and skin recovery

    • encourage the skin to return to its normal barrier function

    • provide additional support following longer or more intensive electrolysis sessions

Dermalux can be particularly helpful for clients prone to prolonged redness or irritation, or for those with larger treated areas. We will always select your LED treatment based on your skin type, the area treated, and your skin’s response to electrolysis. You can use it immediately after selected appointments or incorporate it into your wider treatment and aftercare plan.

Dermalux does not replace your usual electrolysis aftercare. You will still be advised to keep the area clean, avoid unnecessary touching, heat and friction, and to follow the personalised aftercare advice given at your appointment.

Repeated hair removal methods such as plucking, tweezing, waxing, threading, or friction can sometimes stimulate dormant hair follicles, leading to thicker or more noticeable hair growth, especially in androgen-sensitive face and body areas.

  • Areas where follicles are sensitive to mechanical stimulation, such as epilating methods, include: the whole face (not the eyebrows), upper arms, chest, breasts, nipples, tummy, lower back and shoulders, and in some individuals, the inner thighs, buttocks and outer bikini areas. If unwanted hair has increased over time, electrolysis offers a precise, permanent solution by treating each hair follicle individually.

At Parkside Electrolysis, we will ensure we provide a treatment plan that works for you and enables you to continue your busy work and social life.

Electrolysis is a proven method of permanent hair removal and can successfully treat all hair colours, types and textures across all skin tones. Unlike light-based hair removal methods, electrolysis works directly within each hair follicle, targeting the structures responsible for hair growth.

At Parkside Electrolysis & Aesthetics, electrolysis is at the heart of our work. Our experienced electrologists are members of the British Institute & Association of Electrolysis (BIAE) and use advanced Apilus epilation systems with a range of electrolysis techniques, including thermolysis, flash thermolysis and blend.

We treat unwanted hair on both the face and body, from small, isolated areas to larger areas, including the legs, back, chest and arms. For clients requiring extensive treatment or complete clearance, longer marathon electrolysis sessions may also be available following assessment.

Electrolysis can be particularly valuable for hormone-related facial and body hair, including hair associated with hirsutism, menopause and PCOS, as well as unwanted hair that has been stimulated after laser or IPL treatment, sometimes referred to as paradoxical hypertrichosis.

Every new client begins with a thorough 45-minute consultation and a short treatment session. This allows us to assess your hair and skin, discuss the possible causes of your hair growth, explain how electrolysis works, and develop a realistic treatment plan tailored to you.

Our approach is always individualised. Permanent hair removal takes time and commitment, but for many of our clients, the results can be genuinely life-changing.

Electrolysis Permanent Hair Removal

Paradoxical Hypertrichosis – Laser Induced Hair Growth

In some people, laser hair removal can unexpectedly stimulate new hair growth rather than reduce it. This is known as laser-induced hair growth, or paradoxical hypertrichosis.

  • It most commonly affects the face, neck, and jawline, particularly in those with hormonal influences. However, it has also been known to stimulate hair growth in areas that were unaffected or not treated by the laser. If this has happened to you, you're not alone. Electrolysis permanently treats each individual hair follicle and is an effective solution for clearing unwanted hair that has developed after laser treatment.

At Parkside Electrolysis, we have successfully treated men and women who have experienced paradoxical hypertrichosis, an immensely frustrating side effect of laser treatment that can present as extensive areas of stimulation or as smaller, localised patches. Either way, unpredictable hair growth that was never there before can be frightening and distressing. We provide reassurance and a safe treatment plan to smooth hair-free skin.

Hormone-induced hair growth

In some people, laser hair removal can unexpectedly stimulate new hair growth rather than reduce it. This is known as laser-induced hair growth, or paradoxical hypertrichosis.

Hormone-induced hair growth occurs when hormonal changes increase stimulation of hair follicles, causing fine, light (vellus) hairs to become thicker, darker terminal hairs in androgen-sensitive areas such as the face, chest, abdomen, and back. This is most driven by increased androgen activity or heightened follicular sensitivity to normal androgen levels and can be distressing for women, especially.

At Parkside Electrolysis, we understand the distress unwanted hair causes to women's confidence and well-being. We provide bespoke, results-driven treatment plans tailored to all skin and hair types, designed to fit busy work and life schedules. We have helped many women achieve life-changing results through electrolysis.

  • Common causes include Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as PCOS, menopause, and hirsutism (excess hair growth caused by increased androgen activity or heightened follicular sensitivity). While medical treatment may address the underlying hormonal cause, electrolysis permanently destroys treated hair follicles. It is the only FDA-recognised method of permanent hair removal and an effective long-term solution for unwanted hormone-related hair growth.

Hirsutism: Excess terminal hair growth in women following a male-pattern distribution, usually due to elevated androgens or increased sensitivity of hair follicles to androgens.

Menopause: Declining oestrogen levels and a relative increase in androgen influence can lead to new or increased facial hair growth, particularly on the chin, upper lip, and jawline, while scalp hair may become thinner.

PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome: Formerly known as PCOS, A common hormonal disorder characterised by excess androgen production, often resulting in hirsutism, acne, irregular menstrual cycles, and, in some cases, scalp hair thinning.

Superfluous/Excessive Hair Growth

Superfluous hair is unwanted hair that is excessive for you, regardless of the cause. It may be hereditary, hormonal, medication-related, or simply a natural variation.

  • If unwanted hair is affecting your confidence or daily routine, electrolysis offers a safe, precise, and permanent solution for all hair colours and skin types.

At Parkside Electrolysis, we are committed to helping you feel good about yourself, and we will guide you through a plan that ensures you look and feel your best without unnatural-looking results.

Hypertrichosis

Hypertrichosis is excessive hair growth that can occur anywhere on the body, is not caused by elevated male hormones, and affects men, women, and children.

  • It may be present from birth or develop later in life due to genetic factors, certain medications, or underlying medical conditions. Whatever the cause, electrolysis offers a safe, precise, and permanent solution for unwanted hair on all skin and hair types.

At Parkside Electrolysis, we are experienced in treating diverse skin and hair types and providing longer sessions for larger areas to clear and plan a treatment for smooth, hair-free skin.

Gender Affirming Care

Electrolysis can play an important role in gender-affirming care by providing permanent hair removal, helping you feel more comfortable and confident in your appearance.

  • Whether you're preparing for gender-affirming surgery or facial feminisation or simply seeking permanent hair removal as part of your transition, we provide a welcoming, respectful, and confidential environment where your individual goals are always a priority.

Marathon Electrolysis Sessions

For clients requiring treatment over larger areas, or those seeking more extensive clearance in a single visit, we offer marathon electrolysis sessions. These longer appointments allow us to work systematically across an area for an extended period and can be particularly useful for larger areas of facial or body hair, dense hair growth, hormone-related hair growth, and gender-affirming hair removal.

Marathon sessions can significantly increase the amount of hair treated at each visit; however, electrolysis remains a progressive process. Hair grows in different cycles, so further treatments will be required as untreated hairs enter the active growth phase.

Your comfort, skin response and treatment tolerance are always taken into account. Before recommending a marathon session, one of our experienced electrologists will assess your hair growth, skin, treatment history and individual goals to determine whether longer sessions are appropriate for you. Where suitable, we can create a personalised treatment plan that incorporates longer sessions or complete clearances, with the aim of progressively reducing the amount of hair present until permanent clearance is achieved.

"I hadn't been to Parkside for a few years due to moving away but I was so pleased today to see that it's still so good. What a gem of a place. I've mostly seen Sharon over the years and she's been incredible. It doesn't matter how 'unglamorous' the issue - I've usually gone for hair removal. I've always felt like a million dollars..."
